University of Ghana and Toyota Ghana establishes School of Engineering Sciences Training Centre
University of Ghana and Toyota Ghana establishes School of Engineering Sciences Training Centre – Toyota Ghana Company Limited (TGCL) has handed over an ultramodern training center and a multi-purpose workshop to the School of Engineering Sciences, University of Ghana, legon in Accra.
The new Toyota branch and training center are valued at one million dollars which is situated on a six acres of land located at the Haatso end of the University of Ghana, behind the Great Hall.
The School of Engineering Sciences Training Centre is part of a partnership deal signed between the University of Ghana and Toyota Ghana Company Limited (TGCL) the automobile company in 2016.
Toyota Ghana Company Limited will provide the centre engineering equipment worth $2 million over a period of 10 years and a $100,000 scholarship fund to support brilliant, financially challenged students within the same period. As well as a 33-seater Toyota Coaster bus to transport students to and from the School of Engineering Sciences Training Centre.
The Toyota Ghana School of Engineering Training Centre is equipped with 250 students sitting-capacity three modernized lecture rooms, a forty (40) computers Computer-Aided Design (CAD) room with a three-dimensional (3D) printing machines, a library, an engineering laboratory, test rigs, vehicle hydraulic lifts and automobile simulators.
The Legon Toyota branch facility has a service shop, body and paint workshop,spare parts sales and a vehicle delivery centre.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, Justice Sophia A. B. Akuffo (retd), the Chairperson of the University of Ghana Council, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, the Vice-Chancellor of University of Ghana, Prof. Charles Ackah, the Chairman of University of Ghana Chaplaincy Board, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Hisanobu Mochizuki, the Managing Director of Toyota Ghana – Kohji Yanaka, and the Chief Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Patrick Nimoh.

Mr Kohji Yanaka, Managing Director of Toyota Ghana Company Limited (TGCL), said that the School of Engineering Sciences Training Centre demonstrated Toyota Ghana’s commitment to Ghana’s industrial development and Toyota Ghana’s partnership with the University of Ghana was to help students gain practical skills and experience to complement their education.

Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana, added that the School of Engineering Sciences Training Centre would improve students practical training and bridge the gap between academia and industry training experiences, better preparing students for employment and the workplace.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, applauded the cooperation and partnership between the University of Ghana and Toyota Ghana Company Limited, and encouraged other educational and research institutions to follow suit. And further added that such cooperation promotes academia-industry interactions, which in turn builds students capabilities and skills, preparing them for 21st-century education.
Hisanobu Mochizuki, the Japanese ambassador to Ghana applauded the management and staff of Toyota Ghana Company Limited and the University of Ghana for their commitment in ensuring the completion of the project.
